Living beer culture and variety
THE 'TYPICAL SALZBURG BEER'
Having developed the 'typical Salzburg beer', as the site of Europe’s largest hands-on beer and brewing museum (Stiegl Brauwelt) and as the home of numerous local breweries, Salzburg can truly lay claim to the title 'the beer capital of Austria'.
Thanks to its over 500-year history Stiegl has made a significant contribution to this culture; one of the ways it expresses itself being in the large variety of beers. In addition to the eight Stiegl beer varieties, other new and interesting beer creations are developed each month in a small 'creative brewery' in the Stiegl 'Brauwelt'.
Stiegl Hausbier are made with tasty, creative compositions, such as with juniper, coriander, rye or - around the Christmas season - with honey and cinnamon. Some of the beers make it to the large brewery building, such as the Paracelsus Zwickl, which was brewed for the first time around ten years ago as a 'test beer'.
Would you like to try a Stiegl Hausbier? Various Hausbier can be tried in Stiegl's brewery-owned restaurants in Salzburg and in the Stiegl Ambulanz in Vienna.
Stiegl Brewmaster - Christian Pöpperl:
'Our hands-on brewery is also a test brewery for beer innovation. Here we experiment and play with new recipes at our own leisure'.
