The high-quality, distichous spring barley, which lays the basis for our malt, comes from the Lower Austrian Weinviertel region.

Master brewer Christian Pöpperl appraises the quality of the distichous spring barley.

Malt is malting barley transformed by soaking, germinating and kiln-drying which lends our beer the full body and full flavour. In our climes almost only barley is used for brewing, where the quality and variety change according to the location, climate and harvesting time.

Distichous spring barley is perfectly suited to brewing thanks to its low protein content. The quality is determined by: flavour, size and shape of the grains as well as according to the quality of the husks and the inner part of the grains.
