Good taste makes no compromise
We have brewed Stiegl-Goldbräu with 12° original wort for more than 100 years. The original wort is a major criterion with regard to the beer’s flavour. The height of the original wort determines how well-rounded, full-bodied and soft the beer is to the taste. That is why we never have and never will compromise on the original wort - a decision that is obvious not only the palate, but also to the eye: every glass of Stiegl-Goldbräu brilliantly reflects this high quality in its special, glorious golden colour.
Stiegl’s motto is “quality, not quantity”. And, with the exception of times of crisis like World War II, “Stiegl-Goldbräu” has always been brewed with a full 12° original wort since its market launch in 1912. That is by no means a matter of course. After all, Märzen beer can also be brewed with less than 12° original wort, according to European regulations. A large number of breweries in Austria have reduced the original wort, much to the detriment of quality. The benefits of less original wort: less beer tax and lower production costs.
